Hovercraft: HoverStar by Hovertechnics Inc.
Vehicle Description
Hi Everyone,
This is a Hoverstar Hovercraft by Hovertechnics Inc.. I purchased it many years ago. It was not running at the time, but I was able to track down a wiring issue which kept it from being started. Since then I have replaced the coil, plugs, rebuilt the carbs, replaced the battery and installed a new ignition switch. Most recently, I installed a new Yamaha N.O.S. drive coupler. I had this running two years ago because I had a burst of interest and free time, but it was short lived. I have since started a new job that takes all of my free time away. After running it for about fifteen minutes, I ran the fuel out of the newly rebuilt carbs, pushed it into the garage and have not touched it since. I have never had the chance to take this on the water. I fixed the problem with the wiring after I had moved away from northwestern NJ (which is where I would have had easy access to many, many lakes). The engine is a Yamaha two-cycle PZ480SEH. It has manual and electric start and it runs extremely strong. It's a wonderful engine which has always been well kept. After having the carbs rebuilt, I never fine tuned the carbs because I wasn't quite sure how to, so the craft will need a couple of small things to be ready for the water, one of which will be a finetuning of the carbs. The other will be to replace a few of the air socks or cloth segments which keep the air under the craft. I have about twenty new old stock segments which will come with the hovercraft as well as user manuals, engine manuals and assorted paperwork. This hovercraft also comes with the original fly-on, fly-off trailer. The trailer has quite a bit of dry-rotted wood panels which will have to be replaced as well as needing some light-wiring and surface rust removal as well as some paint. The tires are also dry-rotted, but still hold air.
The drive coupler that mounts the engine to the fan unit was replaced two years ago, but an alignment of the engine to drive-unit may be necessary with the use of metal shims. The hovercraft is in good shape, but could use a bit of minor TLC. The hovercraft and trailer both have PA titles which will of course be included. The hovercraft was last registered in 1997 in Pennsylvania. I never had the title or registration put in my name because I never took it on the water. I'm not sure whether Hovertechnics is still in business, but they were of incredible assistance to me when I needed parts and help over-the-phone. This is a very nice hovercraft that has a ton of potential, hence the reason why I've held on to it for so long. It does need minor TLC, but it's all there and it does run. What I love about it: It seats two to three people, has night-time running lights, has a seat that sits people side-by-side or pull the seat out and sit from front to back, has a trailer, has dual fuel tank hook-ups and so much more. There is a panel in the glove-box that has extra terminals for other electrical equipment you might want to install such as search lights, marine siren or even a radio. The clear plexiglas windshield has some small cracks where it mounts to the body with small screws. I believe the throttle mechanism on the handlebar needs repair and the paint on the rear fan cover has oxidized a bit (which can be seen in the photos). I'm sure I've forgotten some other minor items that may need some TLC, but all are minor. This hovercraft has been pulled out of the garage every two years for a engine run, but has spent many years in-between inside a garage, never seeing the light of day. The trailer however, spent most of it's time in outside storage. I know that I have extra parts for the hovercraft that I may not have listed, but they will be included in this auction. I believe that I have a lot of the original pamphlets and option sheets that were originally included with this hovercraft when purchased brand-new. They will be included. If I remember correctly, the original purchase price of this hovercraft with trailer was around thirteen thousand dollars (U.S.) and I think that this hovercraft was produced in 1985. This item is in currently in Clifton NJ. PLEASE READ BELOW.
If you have any questions, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO ASK. The hovercraft and trailer are being sold in AS-IS CONDITION WITH NO GUARANTEES OR WARRANTIES STATED OR IMPLIED. The winning bidder is responsible for all fees associated with pick-up and shipping of these items. I might be able to assist in some way, but you MUST CONTACT ME PRIOR TO THIS AUCTION ENDING TO DISCUSS TERMS. I ask that FULL PAYMENT MUST BE MADE WITHIN SEVEN DAYS OF THIS AUCTIONS ENDING.
